It was just okay. I wouldn't read it again and wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. It didn't seem even slightly realistic. Which of course it isn't, but it was more annoying, frustrating, and aggravating. I kept thinking of the heroine's character, there is no way anyone could be that naïve. I tried to finish it but gave up. I gave it 2 stars because I actually liked the concept of the book, the delivery was just, NO.
For me, there was just too much happening in this book and it unraveled a bit leading me to skim by the end. It had a really good premise and if we had stayed within the blurb - Makayla falling for the MMA fighter, who tempts her to go outside the boundaries - I would have enjoyed it more. But the MMA fighter turns out to be a secretive CEO\millionaire with a completely different life. We also have a love triangle with the sexy doctor at work, Makayla's debts and the debt collectors harassing her, a psycho supervisor, some mystery after an attack, a kidnapping, and enough of an introduction to the best friend and her men. That is a lot to wade through!On the positive side, she is very good at writing chemistry and Makayla and Torment \Max are sizzling. She can also write a super hot sex scene. However it all got weighed down by too many plotlines. Fingers crossed for book two (Amanda, the BFF, and Jake).
First before I really start to write up my total review let me just say a couple of things first. I love a book that has a story line that keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. I love a book where I can read and physically imagine the characters growing and maturing in different ways, but in good ways. I love a book that has humor, drama, secret demons of the characters, with a splattering of some good loving. That being said I think this book that Sarah Castille wrote is one fantastic. Now let’s get started.Makayla or Mac as she is called by everyone except for one very stubborn man; works at the hospital at the admissions desk; next to her friend Charlie. She is smart, funny, compassionate, and passionate. She is a licensed EMT and had high ranks in Collage but her she is working a job and barely making ends meet. Even with sharing an apartment with 4 other people she lives in the hallway that leads to the communal bathroom and the back door of the apartment. She had thought about going to medical school and becoming a doctor but she couldn’t afford it. Then she starts getting phone calls from Sergio, who is with the debt collection agency that her college sent her loan payment to. All the paper work that she had put in for a deferment had been changed and she had to come up with some money fast. Amanda her best friend asked her to take up tickets at Redemption, which held unsanctioned MMA fights. As she was doing her job at the front door a guy came through without buy a ticket and she went to chase after him. Rampage one of the fighters stopped her told her she crossed over the red line and any one that crosses they had to fight in the ring. She tried to talk him out of it even trying to drag her feet by he was like a giant wall of muscle. He put her in the ring with Torment and that is how their relationship started.Makayla has a feisty spirt, and jokes a lot and Torment told her to sit in the front row to watch him fight after their so called wrestling match in the ring. She told him that she can’t watch violence or she throws up and he had a pail given to her for when she did. She has splintered memories of her childhood and the demons that they have created that has given her this physical reaction to violence. She made him promise not to hurt anyone but something went wrong during the fight and his opponent went down hard. That was when her EMT skills kicked in and she rushed into the right to do what she was trained to do and told them to call 911. She stabilized the guy and was rushed to the hospital. What could have been a fatal situation turns for the better because of her work on him to stabilize him. It was at this time Torment decides that he needs her to work for him as a EMT and she accepts the job.Torment is a man of mystery. His real name is Max Huntington, his has tons of money but he doesn’t want anyone to know. He has demons of his own that he is fighting. He fights hard in the ring but it is a controlled violence. But Makayla has a hard time understand that. He is dominating and demanding but he does what he does so that he can keep the people he cares about safe. He is almost possessed by it. He too is very smart, he hides his compassion that he thinks others don’t see and he is very passionate.Now can two people one who has a fear of seeing violence so bad that she throws up; will her demons chase him away? Or will his domineering attitude and wanting to know where she is at all times be the end of their relationship? Will they ever come to an understand before it is to late and something terrible happens to one or both of them? All these things you need to find out on your own this is one book that needs to be read and I left a whole lot of it out.
Makayla is helping out selling tickets for a fight event when someone tries to cut through the crowd and get in for free. She doesn't realize she is chasing after the owner of the establishment and she has caught his interest.Torment is a man who gets what he wants and he wants the spitfire known as Makayla. Can she take a chance on Torment who is holding a few secrets, while trying to get herself out of trouble?So much to this book I didn't want to spoil it but the chemistry is off the charts. Filled with humor, really like Makayla she is quirky and loved her attitude. Torment is intense and a perfect hero for this heroine.
I do not like to give low ratings, it does nothing good for my heart. I know the author put a lot into it, and to be honest, most everyone else loved this, but it did not work for me, so I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading, it was just not my kind of thing.I had issues with the *playing at BDSM* the way it was handled here. I didn't really like either MC. There is Alpha and then there is controlling crazy. But I seem to be the only one, so again, it's probably just me. If you are into Alphas and fighters and such, you will most likely enjoy.
This is a great MMA read. I'm an MMA junkie, so I love the books about it. If you don't know MMA, Sarah Castille does explain the moves and tells what the fighter is doing.This is the first book in the Redemption series. This is my second time reading this and I guess I forgot to leave a review the first time. I decided to reread so I could catch up on this series. I did rate it 5 stars the first time, and that rating is staying.Makayla is at a point in her life where she's kind of stuck. She owes student loan bills to a collection agency, but doesn't make enough to pay the amount they want. Been there done that. Luckily mine weren't jerks like hers were. She needs another job. Thanks to Amanda, her best friend, she can sell tickets for underground MMA fights. Which is funny for someone that doesn't like violence, at all.She has her reasons, and I understand completely.Torment owns Redemption, he's a fighter. But there's more to him than that. I won't go into details because you need to read this book.Max (Torment) is controlling. It's in a protective way. It may come across as him just being a jerk, but once you get his story, you'll understand.I loved how Makayla didn't back down from him. She stood up to him. She actually learns a lot about herself and does have a lot of growth in this story. She has a huge heart, that's for sure.I can't wait to read the others in this series.
