This book is about the artwork of the classic "Psychedelic Rock Posters From San Francisco," which was a Zeitgeist moment in the history of rock music, art, and the spirit of San Francisco and the Bay Area in the 1960's and early 1970's. The big plus of this book is that almost all of the posters in the book are each on a full page (with a silver boarder around the edge of the page). If you have any interest in this incredible art, buy this book.The other book to look at is "The Art of the Fillmore: The Poster Series 1966-1971," which is wonderful, however the posters are not on full pages (like "Psychedelic Rock"), but are more snippets of many posters on each page, which presents a completely different experience of enjoying the "psychedelic" posters.
if you like those creative Fillmore/Avalon posters from the sixties, it doesn't get much better than this book.. Highly recommended
I must confess to being somewhat disappointed by this volume. The binding came apart after a week, and the touted fifth printing color refers to the silver framing all reproductions have, both unnecessary and uglyish. The 'academic' essays are rather pretentious, and neither informative nor critical. Also, I forgot to look carefully at the size of this book, it's somewhat smallish for poster reproductions. Shiny paper is used, which represents another less than optimal choice. The color of the reproductions is good, the choice of posters also, hence the two stars. I'd advice you to look for an alternative!
What an amazing book, the best and detailed and fully encompassing book of this type I have come across. Cant go wrong if your really into this type of history.
