This is as simple as a book gets. A short and concise page about each type of tree and then usually drawings of how to prune. At the back of the book are more diagrams/how to's and short readings as well about summer pruning vs. winter/dormant pruning; espalier pruning and more. For the reader that wants direct and easy to understand information, this is it.
What a wonderful resource. This book was recommended to me by Bill, an excellent local arborist, who said: "You can't afford for me to come out and trim your fruit trees every year...buy the Martin book and do it yourself." Even Bill carefully reviews this book before trimming a fruit tree. Particularly peach trees, which must be done very carefully.
How to prune fruit trees is a “orchard Bible†that I’ve used for over 20 years. It was out of print for many of those years but recently is on the market with some additional information. The best portion of the book Is how to develop a new fruit tree when you get it from the nursery, and learn how the initial pruning will set the tree framework for developing fruit for the rest of its life. The illustrations are excellent for showing how to prune trees over the years to develop a large fruit crop. Sanford the original author really helped my orchard.
Great detailed advice and instruction with nice sketches for where to prune. I carried this book around the orchard last year while I pruned and had great success with my crops this year.

Covers a lot of different trees and other plants in brief but useful detail. Illustrations are basically rough back of the envelope sketches.
As a Master Gardner, I have found this book to be one of the best pruning books available. At one time it was almost impossible to find and buy. Glad to see that it is now available for everyone to use as a guide and reference.
